Col. Frank C. Gerlach served in the Spanish-American War and in World War I. Most information regarding Col. Gerlach comes from the Frank C. Gerlach File, a collection of documents from Col. Gerlach's personal records. The file was donated to the Wayne County Public Library by Mr. Harry S. McClarran in 1989. The file is currently housed in the Genealogy and Local History Department of the Wooster branch of the Wayne County Public Library.
