About Historical Atlases
Plat maps, when used by themselves or with land deeds, are vital to have when trying to locate property. The department has a few plat maps from the 19th century. These include the following:

- 1826: Wayne County Tax List 1826
- 1856: 1856 Baker's Map
- 1873: 1873 Caldwell's Atlas
- 1897: 1897 Caldwell's Atlas

The plat maps from the 20th century do not include plat maps of the towns, villages, or cities in Wayne County, Ohio. They include only the townships.
When locating property on a plat map, it is necessary to know the range, township, section, and part of the section. The range and township numbers indicate in which township to look.
