Comprehensive History

Prior to the celebration of county's 175th birthday, the county commissioners were in need of a logo.

In January of 1987 Bill Bright, head of the Department of Microfilming and Graphics for the county, was asked to see what he could design. Having gone through many layouts and many changes, he came up with six designs. Still seeking something with not too much detail and with a nice balance, he asked an outside opinion. Robert "Bob" Carafelli gave his approval on the design that Bill had confidence in to finally submit in June.

With it's approval by the commissioners, it appeared first on their office window. It was then used on all county offices stationary and official county vehicles.

Bill Bright said he used things the county consists of in the design. With government being the mainstream of all community activity and being a historical building, he chose the county courthouse for the center of the design. The upper right represents all spectrums of Education (College of Wooster, OSU/ATI, OARDC, and all the city and county schools). The lower right represents Industry (all factories and plants). The lower left stands for Progress and Religion (this was later changed to represent the Agriculture presence in the county). The circle means unending, the gold color means prosperity, and meant to give it prestige. The multiple rings of circles enhance the design and the stars give it balance.
