E. E. Gilbert the timber buyer has been in the hardwood lumber manufacturing business at Smithville since 1890 and has always specialized in vehicle dimension lumber and still manufacturing wagon rims and sled runner stock which is shipped to various places in Canada and the United States. The mill is equipped with special up to date machinery for the above purpose and also the manufacture special sizes, qualities and kinds of lumber for the large factories in Canton, Akron, Massillon and Barberton. Specialize on quick service, odd sizes and kinds of lumber for the factory trade: also carry a complete line of dry wagon and implement stock and bushel crates for the local trade.

In this period of timber scarcity, the advantage of a stationary saw mill plant to Wayne county is evident in that everything is utilized for some purpose. Nothing goes to waste. Pieces as small as an inch square and twelve inches long are used for furniture manufacturing, the sawdust is shipped by car loads in sacks and loose for use in factories, refuse is burned for power purposes etc. Everything is utilized for some purpose. In a stationary plant like the above where special quick service is available, where the lumber manufactured is manufactured to exact sizes and grades and where everything is sawed and sold, is where the farmer can usually get the most for his timber.
