Mill was struck by lightning which ignited a fire destroying the mill. The Wooster Fire Department loaded a pumper on a flat bed rail car and sent to Summit Station. The pumper was then pulled to the site of the fire. Water was pumped from Sugar Creek which was muddy and clogged the pump. [1]

After the fire, David Hartzler bought and rebuilt the mill. [2]
