Samuel H. Dawson operated the S. H. Dawson Photographic Studio in Wooster, Ohio from 1893 until his death in 1942. At the time of his death he held the distinction of being the oldest downtown businessman running a continuous business operation. Before entering the photographic business Mr. Dawson worked as a railway mail clerk for 14 years during which time he developed an interest in cameras. In 1893 Dawson bought the photographic studio business of W. H. Harry in downtown Wooster from his brother, Albert S. Harry, after the death of William H. Harry in 1892. Which then became the S. H. Dawson Photographic Studio that ran in the same location, the northeast corner of E. Liberty and Buckeye streets, for the next 49 years. It was reported in his obituary that the Dawson Studio had accumulated over 150,000 negatives in his file room, which included more than 10,000 glass negatives which was the only image development technique he had available when he first started in business.
