Purdy's Pharmacy was established in Doylestown, Ohio in 1962 when Robert Purdy bought the Doylestown drug store business of Kenneth Hackett.

Robert "Bob" Purdy was born May 7, 1933 in Millersburg to William J. and Dorothy (Barnhart) Purdy. He graduated from Chester High School. He studied pre-pharmacy at Ohio State University and studied pharmacy at Ohio Northern University where he graduated with a Pharmacy degree in 1956. Following graduation Bob worked in Wooster as assistant manager of Gray's Drug Store. After which the Purdy's moved to Yuma, Arizona and lived there for 4 years where he managed a store and was a purchasing agent for another store before returning to Orrville, Ohio in 1961 and then moving to Doylestown to own and operate Purdy's Pharmacy until he retired.

Robert A. Purdy, age, 76, died January 23, 2010.
