These popular mills were originally established here about 30 years ago, and have been under the present efficient management for the past 11 years. The mills are thoroughly equipped with best machinery for the manufacture of the highest grade of family flour, and merchant work, custom work and exchange is transacted. Their present capacity is 100 barrels per day (24 hours), and 10 hands are employed. The principal brand manufactured is known as Plank Bros. "Snow Flake," and finds a ready sale wherever introduced. his firm also deal in grain, flour, meal, and mill feed. The individual members are H. and Abm. Plank, and are not only practical millers of many years experience, but are members of a family nearly all of whom are engaged in this branch of business. The Plank family are among the early settlers here, Abraham Plank, father of the present firm, coming here from Pennsylvania when but 12 years old, and resided here until the time of his death, at the age of 75 years. His brother John, who formerly resided here, now resides in Davis County, Iowa, is 95 years of age, and in the enjoyment of health and remarkable vigor. He was the first man here engaged in the undertaking business, making a and trimming his own coffins to order. He also built the old-fashioned windmill. Out of both families all but two are engaged in milling operations. Another feature worthy of note is the uniform large size of the members of this family, both male and female, some weighing as high as 235 lbs., while a short time ago ten of the family aggregated 1,975 lbs. The senior member of this firm is now in charge of a mill at Galion, O., while the general operations here are under the management of Abraham Plank. [1]
