This house was originally established in 1852 by Mr. J. Zimmerman, the present partnership dating from 1872. The premises occupied embrace two floors of a fine business building, giving ample space for the transaction of the different departments of the business. Messrs. Zimmerman & Co. transact a general jobbing trade in staple and fancy groceries, grocers' sundries, notions, drugs and medicines, druggists' sundries, and deal in school and miscellaneous books, school supplies, stationery, etc., giving employment in the different departments to an average force of 10 assistants. Their trade extends through the various counties of Eastern Ohio, and is represented by traveling salesmen, who are able to place goods at prices which will defy competition. This individual members of this firm are Mr. John Zimmerman, who holds the position of president of the National Bank of Wooster, and also Director of the Insane Asylum, Northern District of Ohio, Mr. L. P. Ohliger, the present efficient postmaster of this city, and Mr. J. R. Zimmerman, all of whom have for years taken a deep interest in the promotion of the business interests and general welfare of this city and county. [1]
