  • 1819 - First school in Congress was the first log cabin to be built in Congress and was located on the former site of the Congress School which was torn down. John Trotten was the first teacher in the log cabin school.
  • Later and frame school was built in the same area as the present Congress School. This building was moved across the driveway and made into the Congress town hall. This new town hall held the Farmer's Institute which met two days in the spring. Town and school performances were also held at the former school.
  • 1904 - the brick school was built after the former frame school was relocated across the driveway. This brick building was located near the village center and is reached either way by the alley off state route 539 or off S.R. 604. L.S. Knight was head teacher and E. H. Eicher was on the School board.
  • 1922 - The first phase of the building which included the tower and bell was constructed for $17,000.
  • 1922-23 - At a cost of !70,000 the auditorium was built.
  • Before the next phase would take place two county school buildings we relocated to the south side of the school. These were used for classrooms until the south side was built.
  • 1952 - Congress School because only Congress High School from the Northwestern Local School District. The Congress Elementary students were sent to Chester Elementary School and West Salem Elementary School.
  • 1953 - The school building represented an expenditure of well over $100,000.00. Congress School held grades 1-12 until 1952.
  • 1987 - As of this year Congress School was Congress Jr. High School for the Northwestern Local School District.
