Born in 1919 in Wooster, Freedlander grew up working in his family's store, which was founded by his father in 1898. After serving in the US Army during World War II, Freedlander returned to Wooster and took over the family business.
Under Freedlander's leadership, the store expanded and became a prominent fixture in downtown Wooster. In addition to offering a wide range of merchandise, Freedlander's was known for its exceptional customer service and community involvement. Freedlander was also a generous philanthropist, supporting a variety of local organizations and causes.
Freedlander passed away in 2011 at the age of 92, but his legacy lives on in the community. The store, which was a beloved institution for over a century, closed in 2018, but the building now houses a variety of local businesses.
