Biographical Sketch

Sarah Annice was born May 21, 1854 to James and Sarah Ann Moyer Jeffery in Congress, Wayne County, Ohio. (U.S. Census and family records) Some records list her as Annice F. She was supposed to be the first female doctor in the state of Ohio. She graduated from Western Reserve Medical College in Cleveland, Ohio in 1884. Note: I am not sure if this was the name of the college when she attended. She studied under Dr. Garver of West Salem.

She practiced medicine in Greenwood, near Cleveland, from 1884-1900. Her specialty seemed to be women’s health. She was very outspoken in the Women’s Suffrage Movement—serving as auditor of the National Women’s Suffrage Associations and as vice president of the State Equal Suffrage Association. On December 31, 1901 Annice married John Jefferson Davis Myer in Cassopolis, MI [Michigan marriage license] and returned to Portland, Oregon. She died on May 10, 1911 after a lengthy illness.
