Comprehensive History
A petition has been filed in common pleas court here preparatory to selling the building and premises of the Independent Congregational Church of Moreland. The petition filed by the trustees states that the building no longer is used for worship purposes and that most of the church members have died or have joined other congregations. The court is asked to grant permission to correct the deed of the premises and to give the trustees the right to sell the property. It is stated that the proceeds of the sale will be turned over to the Ohio Advent Christian Conference. A. F. Greenwald, R. E. Golden and John T. Orr filed the petition as trustees of the organization. Attorney George Coffey drew up the petition.

The churches of which we have any kind of record are the United Methodist, Jacob's Lutheran, Church of God, Trinity English Lutheran and Congregational. Mr. Ralph McGovern has the deed showing that he and his wife, Fern, purchased a church building from the trustees of the Independent Congregational Church of Moreland on July 20, 1943, for the sum of $700. That building is still standing. Ralph said that when they purchased the building, it was already 50 years old. That takes it back in 1893, and what denomination it was at that time, nobody knows for certain. Mary Miller informed me that Forest (Red) Morr, son of George Morr, was one of the elders of that church, and she was of the opinion that it used to be an Advent church. The Ralph McGoverns have the clock that used to be in that church in their home.
