"The Band Stand was in front of the Council Room and looked like many of the Gazebos now seen in towns and around the country. Even though they might not be built for a band and they are very decorative and add much to the appearance of the town. This "Band Stand" was always called that and it was used mainly for that purpose. Sometimes a political candidate would take advantage of it and would speak from there, it being about the center of town. In the summer it was sometimes used for a summer church service which was a community affair. It was very popular for a time as a good platform for any speaker who wanted a good audience. I remember it was said that it would hold 30 people. Chairs used for the band were stored in the council rooms and it was a good job for Boy Scouts to get these chairs out every Saturday and get them all in place for the Band on Saturday night.
Henry Eberwein, a former Creston boy came down from Cleveland every Saturday evening to direct the Band. He seemed to understand the music and the band sounded good to Creston people who did not get a chance to hear larger bands. Any boy in High School who was taking lessons on any instrument could play in the band. They were very proud to be included and most of all-- proud to wear the uniform. [1]
