Clinton Township<br/>
 
Clinton township was named for Governor Dewitt Clinton, and was fromed in 1825. The first school house in the township was a small one room log cabin erected by settlers. A teacher received seventy-five cents a week for her services at the Newkirk schoolhouse.<br/>
 
What is now Big Prairie was first looked upon as an impassable swamp; it was soggy, wet, full of ponds, dangerous to cattle.<br/>
 
Shreve came into existence with the Pittsburg, Fort Wayne, and Chicago R. R. Named after Thomas Shreve, it was incorporated in 1859. Original name of Shreve was Clinton Station.|Harry B. Stapler|The Wooster Daily Record, 1940-MAR-09

Clinton Township was established June 7, 1825 and was named to honor Governor De Witt Clinton.[1]

It contains 28 sections.[2] Its formation wiped out Pike Township.[3]
