Customer expectations shifted beginning in the 1980s, and Buehler's swiftly met the demand for additional services. In 1983, the Orrville store opened a new pharmacy as part of its services, and the New Philadelphia store added a Hallmark store and an FTD flower shop as well as a kitchen and auditorium. Stores now also generally include a restaurant, a pharmacy, a bank or ATM machines, and the larger stores also have flower shops and cooking school facilities. The renovation of the Wooster Milltown store in the late 2010s continued the idea of providing many services under one roof by including a UPS store and a state liquor store.

====Buehler's New Market Will Open Its Doors on Monday====

Buehler's Market will open its new building at 141 North Market Street Monday morning, E. L. {{Surname|Buehler}}, proprietor, announced today.

The new building, designed especially for a food market, has been under construction since early spring.

It is located almost directly across from the post office and just south of the Wayne Building and Loan.

The store's operation will occupy all of the basement and main floor and a large part of the second floor where the bakery equipment will be installed. Special built-in refrigeration units protect all the food from the minute it comes into the store until it is taken out by the customer.

The opening of the new store culminates sixteen years of business in Wooster for Mr. Buehler. He now owns stores in Dover and New Philadelphia, the town from whence he originally came.

PLANNED FOR YEARS

"For years," he said, "we have been planning a new, better and larger modern fresh food market for the people of this community. At last it is about completed, and only because of the loyalty, trust and patience of the people is this move possible.

"Many foods have been added so that the people will have more complete selection. There have also been many refrigerated cases added to protect your food.

"We also feel that we shall have one of the most modern and up to the minute meat departments. Fine quality and service have been uppermost in our minds.

NEW BAKING DEPARTMENT

"Our new baking department, too, is a source of satisfaction, for we shall be able to offer, at all times, the freshest pastries and baked goods to our customers. This department will not be open, however, for a few weeks."

While delivery service will be continued, the market will begin operation, on a cash basis Monday, believing that self-service is the way a large majority of the people will want to purchase their food in the future. <ref>Daily Record, Wooster, Ohio. 1947 January 3, p.2.</ref>

====Buehlers Plan Enlargement of Wooster Store, Services====

Buehler's Inc., said Wednesday that work will begin later this month on construction of an addition to their Wooster grocery on N. Market St., which will double the size of the present store.

A house, built there about 80 years ago, was torn down earlier this week and architect's drawings are being readied for the new section.

Buehler's Inc. is a family owned grocery chain which other stores in Medina, Dover, New Philadelphia and Orrville. President of the firm is Ed {{Surname|Buehler}} and his three sons hold the other offices. Eugene {{Surname|Buehler}} and Wayne {{Surname|Buehler}} are vice presidents and Donald {{Surname|Buehler}} is secretary.

Eugene {{Surname|Buehler}}, in announcing his company;s plans to the Daily Record said two factors made expansion necessary; increase in customer traffic and the rapid development of new food products in recent years.

Hundreds of new food items are put on the market each year, he explained, and more display room is needed to accommodate the increased stock. Frozen foods have been especially greater in volume, Buehler said, requiring expansion of facilities in that department.

The new addition will become an extended part of the present store which was built in in 1952 by Buehlers.

It will be ready for use this fall. Upon completion, the front of the store will remain a colonial design and the customer service entrance will be in the same southeast corner as now is in use.

All departments, including offices, storage and the bakery, as well as shopping areas, will be considerable enlarged and there will be some additional parking areas to the rear of the new structure.

Plans call for the addition to be built while the north wall of the present store remains in place, then when the new wing is completed, the wall will be carefully taken down and service will not be disrupted at any time. Eugene Buehler said. <ref>Daily Record, Wooster, Ohio. 1965 June 9, p.0.</ref>

====Buehler's Milltown store undergoes transformation====

For 86 years, Buehler's Fresh Foods has been a mainstay of innovation and evolution. Listening to the customer while anticipating new products, trends and services is the balanced approach to growth Buehler's has taken over the years.

The track record speaks for itself. Buehler's was the first supermarket in the state to offer customers "load and go," an automated pick-up system that takes groceries from the store on a conveyor to covered pick-up and into customers' vehicles. Customers' groceries are dry, no matter the elements. Other "firsts in the state" include: First to offer online grocery shopping for customer pick-up and first to incorporate an Ace Hardware.

While these accomplishments are important, Buehler's is most focused on offering top-notch customer service, the latest products, and either new or transformed departments to meet customer preferences and to make their lives easier.

All of this came together when planning and working on the remodeling project for Buehler's flagship store, Wooster Milltown. The transformation of Milltown was a collaborative input from focus groups, customer surveys, employee suggestions, national industry trends and remaining true to the Buehler brand.

Buehler's Milltown store was originally opened in 1980. Gene and Don {{Surname|Buehler}} had a vision in the late 1970s to build a second Wooster location, and Buehler's was the first large retailer at the north end of town. Today, the north end is home to local, national and international retailers offering Wayne County residents convenient shopping.

The "all new" Milltown store was more than a remodeling project -- it was a transformation. From the moment you enter the parking lot and see the new sign, the spacious front entrance and are greeted with the freshest produce, you know you're in for a treat. Some of the "new" additions include:

New Front Entrance -- open and inviting with natural light and home to the grocery carts for easy access

New Chef's Kitchen -- featuring an array of chef-prepared food, made-to-order, for take-out or dine-in

New The Kitchen Table -- a fun, relaxed, comfortable atmosphere to sit and enjoy Chef's Kitchen foods

New Chef's School -- training room for Bueh-ler's chefs to test recipes and menu items

New State Liquor Agency -- a "store within a store," flanked by Beer and Wine Department

New Big Beer Exchange -- offers eight tap varieties of craft and specialty beers

New Wine Tasting Bar -- where customers may select from a range of wines to purchase by the glass

New Beverage Bar -- convenient self-serve freestyle machine, Scenic River Coffee flavors, tea

New Community Room -- free rental to nonprofit groups or businesses with catered food options

Buehler's is committed to food service, with in-store chefs developing new recipes and delicious selections. Milltown customers may indulge in an array of fresh chef-prepared foods simply by placing their order at the Chef's Kitchen counter, paying at the separate food service register, and then choosing to take-home or dine-in at the all new Kitchen Table casual dining area. The Kitchen Table offers a variety of comfortable seating, and is a home away from home to enjoy the custom prepared selections.

"The key is the customer -- customers are in control," said Jack {{Surname|Kerby}}, store manager Buehler's Wooster Milltown. "Unlike traditional restaurants, you select the amount of food you want (so you're not paying for food you don't want), and there's no tipping. What a value!"

The new "Big Beer Exchange," is located in the Beer Department and features eight tap varieties of craft and specialty beers. Reusable glass containers, also known as Growlers, are available in 32 and 64 ounce sizes. Growlers are filled while you wait to take home and enjoy your favorite brews. Tap offerings will include limited releases, as well as offerings from local breweries: [[JAFB Brewery Co|JAFB-Wooster Brewery]], Millersburg Brewery and The Brew Kettle Brewery in Strongsville. Draft beer taste samples are available for 25 cents.

The new Wine Department includes a Wine Tasting Bar where customers may select from a range of wines to purchase a 5-ounce glass for $5 or up. With the expansion of the Wine and Beer Departments, Buehler's now boasts one of the largest selections in the area with more than 1,000 wines and 800 beers. The inclusion of the State Liquor Agency store, conveniently located next to this department, offers more than 1,000 spirits.

Ron {{Surname|James}}, Buehler's director of beer, wine and liquor added, "We are proud to offer our customers the convenience of one-stop shopping, and have strived to respect customers' considerations by keeping this a store within a store, with its own doorway and register for payment."

Buehler's has a strong beer and wine offering, with more than 500 beers and 1,000 wines available daily. There is a 10 percent discount on wine case purchases, and liquor agency customers may use their credit or debit cards. Wooster Liquor Agency customer service and convenience is enhanced with newly expanded hours, Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

Buehler's offered a commemorative "Wooster" recycle bag for purchase, featuring pen drawings of local landmarks. These reusable bags are great for packing groceries, personal stuff, or even wrapping a gift. Two unique promotions made customers part of Buehler's history.

"As a result of our Sign the Beam and Handprints in History promotions to engage the community during the remodel, our employees, customers, and KidzPark kids are a lasting part of our remodel," added Jack Kerby, Buehler's Milltown store manager. "They may view their signatures on the structural I-beam or see their handprints in the lobby entrance every time they're in the store."

Buehler's new Community Room seats up to 50, and is offered rent free to nonprofits, organizations, groups and businesses as a place to hold meetings. Food offerings are available through the catering department. Simply call the Buehler's Milltown store at 330-345-5908, and ask for Community Relations to reserve the room.

On Sept. 4, 2013, construction started with a brief ceremony of smashing a wall in the former cooking school. Spearheaded by local contractor [[Bogner Construction Company|Bogner Construction]], the project timeline was designed not to disrupt the customer's shopping experience. To minimize customer inconvenience, contractors worked nights, and there was no construction over the 2013 holiday season. Buehler's, as well, made a conscientious effort to support the local community by involving over 60 local contractors and businesses in this project.

Bob {{Surname|Buehler}}, executive vice president of marketing and fresh goods stated, "The Buehler family would like to thank Wooster and the surrounding area for its support. With community input, we have changed our store by adding products, services and features found in the best stores across the United States. We are excited about the opportunity to serve the community at large and be active in its success while continuously improving both." <ref>Daily Record, Wooster, Ohio. 2015 February 26. </ref>

In 1929, Ed and Helen Buehler}} opened their first, modest grocery store in New Philadelphia, Ohio. A scant three years later, they had relocated to Wooster and opened a store near the northeast corner of Public Square. The store gradually expanded, outgrowing its first space in 15 years and necessitating a move to an even larger space on North Market Street (its current downtown Wooster location) in just four more years. From there, the business grew beyond the bounds of Wooster, with stores opening in Dover (1941), Orrville (1959), Medina (1964), Coshocton (1968), Delaware (1969), Wadsworth (1975), Wooster Milltown (1980), and Ashland (2001).

As the number of stores grew, so too did the office and warehouse side of the market, and in 1975 those managerial operations moved to a new facility at 1401 Old Mansfield Road, Wooster, with expansions to that space occurring throughout the 1980s.
