Home retains many original features including light fixtures, beautiful oak woodwork and ceiling beams, as well as built in china cabinet, display cases, and benches. Baughman Township was established March 5, 1816 and named after John Baughman, the first white settler.[1] John was recorded as the first white man to be granted a deed in Wayne county.[2] The township had a lot of swamp area. [3]

It was formed from the originally surveyed township 17, range 11.[4]

There were 10 country schools around 1900, but they were almost all closed by 1938 and the students were sent to either Dalton, Orrville, or Marshallville.

There were a lot of coal mines in the early 1900's.[5]
