William [[Larwill (surname)|Larwill]], father of John and Joseph, was a native of [[Kent, England]] and came to [[Wooster, Ohio]] from [[Columbiana County]] in 1814. For a century this family is interwoven with the progress of the community and are frequently mentioned in this history; William built the first house, also had the first [[store]] of any kind. Joseph was the first [[surveyor]] and an officer in the [[War of 1812]]. John is credited with planting the first corn in the county also the first timothy grass. Both brothers worked tirelessly to secure a railroad for [[Wooster, Ohio]]. They helped finance many of the early business firms. This materials was the source of an interesting brochure written a few years ago about these two remarkable men entitled, "There Were Giants in Those Days". Anyone who reads this is astounded at the scope and diversity of their interests.
