"A declamation and oration contest will be held in the Presbyterian church Wednesday evening. At this time two orators and two declaimers will be chosen to represent Congress high at the time of the debate March 23.

Congress High School debaters are preparing for the debate with West Salem and Sterling High Schools. Both West Salem and Sterling have been defeated in former debates by Congress and if it is possible they will again see the ceremony repeated. The question, "Resolved that the U.S. should subsidize its Merchant Marine," is upheld by the Congress affirmative team. The participants in the debate for Congress will be:-- Affirmative: Helen Marti; Joseph Weltmer; Inez Stewart' Mabel Ruff, alternate. The members of the negative team are:-- Guy Johnson; Ruth Ickes; Mildred Stewart; Willard Devenney, alternate. The affirmative team will journey to Sterling where they will fight the Sterling affirmatives on the 23 of March.

The Congress basket ball teams journeyed to Burbank last Saturday evening where the boys lost to Burbank in a 10 minute overtime games with a score of 25 to 23. The girls played overtime but were unable to break the tie which existed between the teams. The score was 1-1. Congress could easily put it over on Burbank if it had been for lack of practice. The teams only practice once a week on the Chester Hi floor. What is expected to be one of the most interesting games is when Congress meets Chester at Chester.

The boys teams will participate in the tournament at Ashland college next Friday.
