"Weaver Leaves Congress Post: Will Drop Coaching Activities and Turn Attention to Straight Teaching. Announcement was made toda6y by Coach A. T. Weaver of Congress High School]] that he will not be at that place next year. Coach Weaver is retiring from the coaching profession although he expects to continue as a teacher at a school where no coaching is required.

Under the new regulation 12 credit hours in physical education are required for a coach. Coach Weaver has not the required number of hours in this respect and since he did not and does not expect to following coaching as a profession, he not plan to attend school elsewhere to get the required credits.

Coach Weaver expects to continue in the teaching profession as a teacher only. He has been at Congress for the past two school terms and during that time his teams have ranked at or very near the top in basketball and football, the two sports which the school supports.

Congress Record.

In baseball Congress was county champion in 1934 and 1935. The team won 17 and lost three and tied one in 1935. The team went to the finals of the district baseball tournament in Coach Weaver's first year and lost in the second round of the district tournament this year.

In basketball Congress was county champion in 1933-34, winning a total of 20 games and losing two. Even league game was won. The team, was second in the county tournament that season adn set a new record for the league in scoring both in totals and in average points a game.

During the basketball season of 1934-35, Congress won seven of ten league games and ran its victory string in the county league to 15 straight. The team also was the point leader for the county league. The team lost two non-league games and one was lost in the tournament.

Popular Coach.

During his two years Coach Weaver has been one of the most popular of the county coaches, displaying an ability to lose without undue complaining and an ability to win without making defeat any more difficult than necessary for the losing team or coach.

Comment of a baseball fan at McDonald where Congress was in the district tournament, brings out the attitude Coach Weaver instilled into his players. In discussing the baseball tournament the fan declared to Coach Weaver, "you have the best sports and the cleanest players that come here for this tournament."
