"Before a crowd that filled the Rittman High School auditorium to its capacity and at times evinced the utmost enthusiasm, Miss Ethel M. Irvin, representing the Creston High School, won first place in the Wayne County high school oratorical contest Friday night.
Miss irvin's theme was "The Way of Peace and the Way of War," Junior Palmer, representing the Congress High School, won second with his oration, "America and the Promotion of World Peace," Miss Ethel Mealey, representing Rittman High School, was third with her oration, "Abraham Lincoln."
The decision of the judges was received with applause, especially when they referred to the splendid work of all the contestants and the difficulty they had in selecting the best from such a fine array of talent.
Mildred Badertscher, freshman represented Dalton High School."
