Comprehensive History

22 Aug 1851, SW corner W 1/2 of Section 29 Milton Twp., (Pleasant Home Rd. between Sterling & Smithville) was deeded to trustees George Hoff, Phillip Hoff and John Young from Joseph Feightner, Wayne County Land Deeds Vol. 36 page 484.  It was a German Reformed and Lutheran church.  In 1893, a liberal group of German Baptists from Beech Grove (known as the Progressive Brethren) began meeting at Mt. Zion.  In 1962, the Rittman Church of Christ began meeting in the building.  Sources found for this church were History of Wayne County, Ohio, Ben Douglas, 1878, page 636, History of Wayne County, Ohio, B.F. Bowen & Co., 1910, Vol. 1, page 250, History of Wayne County, Ohio, 1987, page 50, Beginnings of Wayne County in 1812, Richard Smith (compiler), page 37 and Wooster Daily Record, 6 Sep 1948.
