Description photo | How many ton-miles to Berlin?
"More than any other war in history this is a ton-mile war. When it is over, more tons will have been carried more miles by all means of transportation than in any previous war. The final stretch to the front-- the mileage over rough roads and torn terrain to combat stations and forward ammunition dumps is covered by motorized equipment. Highway transport is carrying out its biggest assignment in history. As a manufacturer of peacetime equipment for the highway transport industry we take pride in our opportunity to help high transport do a fighting job. Since March, 1942, our fill-time responsibility has been to produce for the armed forces the trailers they ask from us-- in full quantity and on time. When Victory brings that job to completion we look forward to resuming our peacetime role-- providing van and trailer bodies of distinctive character for America's highway transport industry. War production has kept our manufacturing organization intact-- and busy. It has familiarized us with methods and equipment from which our peacetime customers will benefit. Our friends who know the Gerstenslager plant as a builder of fine custom-built bodies for vans and trailers will, we believer, be interested in the methods by which we now turn and army trailers at the rate of XXXXX every XXXXX minutes.* And, though different in appearance, construction, and character, both war and peacetime vehicles have this in common. They are built to help the user of highway transportation obtain maximum ton-mileage from motorized units.
