A prominent citizen of Wooster is no more. August Imgard departed this life at noon last Friday at his home at the corner of Bealle Avenue and East Bowman street. His death was sudden, he being seriously ill only a few hours. For some months he had been in ill health from valvular disease of the heart, which for the last two weeks gave some apprehensive to himself and relatives. Being a man of energy he attended to business to the last, going down to his work as usual, no worse than before, but during Thursday night he had a severe attack, growing better by morning, and was up and around the house and wanted to go to work, but was prevailed upon to remain at home. About ten o'clock he had another heart attack, which ended with death two hours later.

His age was 78 years. He was born in Wetzler, Germany, and came from there to Wooster in 1848. where he continuously resided until death. he was a tailor by trade, and for many years successfully conducted the merchant tailoring business in Wooster with his brother, the late F. L. Imgard.

He was a popular citizen, noted for his integrity of character, industry and excellent personal and social qualities. His residence is one of the finest in the city, with its beautiful, spacious and well kept grounds, which eh took special pride in embellishing and exercising open hospitality to friends. While interested in all public affairs, taking an active part when necessary, he was strictly a home man, passing his leisure there, devoted to his family, of which he was presiding center as a loving and generous husband and father.

He is survived by his wife and four children. Mrs. Kate Hart, wife of Dr. H. A. Hart; harry A. Imgard, of Wooster; Mrs. Gertrude McQuigg, wife of Major McQuigg, of Cleveland; Mrs. Nettie Hubbell, wife of Rev. W. H. Hubbell, of Dalton.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the family residence, conducted by Rev. W. A. Littell, pastor of the United Presbyterian church. The attendance was large and the floral tributes many. The pall-bearers were: William Annat, Mahlon Rouch, Jacob Barnard, J. S. R. Overholt and W. S. Baungardner. Interment in Wooster Cemetery.
