Comprehensive History

Dalton United Methodist Church located at 204 West Main Street, Dalton Dalton was established in 1827. Members met in the home of William Dean for 7 years, and then built the first Methodist Episcopal Church in 1835 which was a log building located at the entrance of what is now the western part of Dalton Cemetery. The 2nd structure was built in 1850, close to the present church site but to the northwest, which was the public square of Dalton at the time. As the size of the congregation grew, another building was erected in 1908.
