Comprehensive History
The narrow three-story brick building at 122 S. Market St. was built in 1888 by Allen Clark after he bought four lots from the City of Wooster that included the 17ft X 60ft Lot 40 that once housed the city's Old Relief Fire Engine house.
The building to be erected by the Clarks on the site of the Relief Engine room will be a modern three-story building, terra cotta and plate glass front. The design will be furnished by Kramer & Weary of Akron. Landers Bros. have the contract for taking down the old building and excavating, and began work Friday afternoon.

The construction of Clark's new building, on south-east side of Public Square, is going rapidly along, and will be substantial and ornamental. The front is of brown stone and pressed brick laid with brown mortar. It will be under roof by middle of August. James Wilson has contract for brick and stone work, Samuel Ames of the carpenter work, and Wm Woodland of laying the pressed brick.
