Historical Information
Sugar Creek Township is one of four original townships of Wayne County, Ohio, originating on April 11, 1812.[1]
It was formed from all of the originally surveyed townships 16, 17, and 18 in range 11, and the northern part of township 15 in range 11, along with all of townships 16, 17, and 18 in range 12, with the northern part of township 15 in range 12.[2]
Reportedly named after a creek.[3]
Supposedly James Goudy started the third permanent white settlement in Wayne County in the fall of 1809 when he settled two miles southwest of Dalton.[4]
