| content=Did you know seat of justice was laid out in the fall of 1808 by the Proprietors, John Bever, William Henry and Joseph H. Larwill?  The town of Madison became the seat of justice for the county on 30 May 1811.  In the April session of 1814, the town of Madison was vacated and [[Wooster, Ohio|Wooster]] was chosen as the county-seat (Douglass p. 284). Wooster was incorporated as a town on 13 October 1817 and advanced to a city of the 2nd class on 9 September 1868. To honor the incorporation of Wooster as a town, the Genealogy and Local History Department is offering a series of local history programs. The kick off was in June with the 120th Anniversary celebration of the [[Wayne County Public Library]]. It will continue through the Fall of 2017. Upcoming local history topics of interest include: ''The Jeffery Brothers: Unknown Heroes of the Wayne County Underground Railroad'' on August 24 from 7:00-8:00 p.m.; ''Murder, Mayhem and Mysterious  Hauntings of Wayne County, Ohio'' on October 12 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.; and ''Civil War Tokens of Wayne County, Ohio'' on November 9 from 7-8 p.m.  Other [[Genealogy and Local History Programs|upcoming programs]] are listed on our website.

Did you know...
Did you know the house that is on the corner of Beall Ave and High St in Wooster was built in 1861? The house was owned by only two different families. The first owner was Anthony Wright. When he died, the house was deeded to his only daughter, Sarah Elizabeth (Wright) Quinby. It left the family when Sarah sold the property to William and Mary Fike in 1908. When William and Mary Fike died, the house passed down to their only daughter, Elizabeth Lorson. It remained in her position until she sold it to the Noble Foundation Inc in 2007.
