"John G. Ford was born in Duchess County, N.Y., July 3, 1808, and died May 27, 1884, aged 75 years, 10 months and 24 days. In the year 1820, his father settled on the farm in Ohio near West Salem which the deceased owned when he died. In 1832, he married Nancy Lindersmith, who died in 1834. In 1836, he married Mercy G. Cass. She with six children still survive him. From 1850 till 1865, he was proprietor of what is now known as the Commercial House. In 1860 he built the grist mill, and operated it for one year. He was also elected Justice of the Peace, the same year. Mr. Ford was a man beloved by his friends, charitable in his views and during the latter part of his life, he lived in in comparative quiet, not pretending tod o much, yet never idle. The funeral services were held at the residence of Mrs. Electa Wells, his daughter, Rev. Matlock officiating, assisted by Rev. Lehman and Gamertsfelder. John Johnson of the Commercial House is very low, as is also George Thorley. Neither is expected to recover."
