Bertha was the 2nd born child to Philip Ellsperman and Louise D. Miller Ellsperman. She was born on 18 December 1875 in Wooster, Ohio. She was the first official librarian of the Wooster Public Library, beginning her tenure in 1897. In 1901, the Library Board of Trustees asked for her resignation.
