Wooster Journal and Democratic Times Jan. 10, 1838 New stable. Martin A Rahm continues livery business at stable in rear of Eagle House where he has saddle horses, buggies, sulkies and sleighs.

Wayne County Library. The undersign will hereby notify the stockholders of the Wayne County Library, compliance with the regulations of the constitution of said organization published some time in May last a notice to those intending of necessity , a meeting will be held for electing officers for said association for the ensuing year. The time for holding the annual election having been past, the undersign was informed that a librarian was elected and the books were suffered to remain in the hands of the person whose charge it was understood they were left to stockholders at the last annual meeting. The undersign has been called upon by the parties informed that it is necessary absence from home, renders it impossible for him to perform the duties of said office. He has been officially informed of his election at the time. The stockholders will therefore take notice and consideration of what is to be done with property of said association, now in care of Mr. Michael Sixieby of this village under the circumstances. Wooster Journal and Democratic Times Jan. 17, 1838 Wooster Hat Factory. The subscribers, intending soon to dissolve partnership, are anxious to reduce their present stock of fur, silk and wool hats. Nachtrieb and White. New goods. None cheaper or better at RP Reddick. Also ad for Cyrus Spink. The subscribers have taken the stand formerly occupied by Dr. SN Bissell and more recently by WH and JW Smith, one door east of Mr. J Miller tavern. Fall and winter goods, WS and JP Smur. Wm Spencer informs people that he has moved to Wooster to his store on the corner of Market and South Streets, directly south of the Eagle House with dry goods, hardware, glassware, saddles, iron steel, nails, leather and dyestuffs.

County surveyor. I have been appointed county surveyor and will be found at my residence in the west part of the village, EC Christmas. Wooster Journal and Democratic Times March 21, 1838 Stop horse thief- reward of $50 will be paid by the subscriber for the apprehension and securing of the horse stolen by one John Adams, horse doctor by profession, who ran away from this place of 22 last taking with him a 6 year old boy, bay horse, together with a saddle and bridal. Said Adams is about 5 ft. 11 inches tall, sandy complexion and about 35 years of age. He is believed to be a native of Seneca County, New York, where he is supposed to have gone. He formerly lived in Harrisburg and obstinately works in doctoring horses but he has proved himself not but to stealing them. Wooster Journal and Democratic Times April 4, 1838 A $50 reward will be paid by Kimball Porter for the apprehension of one John Adams, a horse doctor by profession, who ran away from this place on 27th last, taking with him a 6 year old bay horse. Offering $25 for Adams and $25 for the horse- Kimball Porter. Whig meeting. A meeting of the Whigs of Wayne County will be held at the courthouse in Wooster at 1 pm on Saturday, April 28th for purpose of appointing delegates to the Whig state convention in Columbus and to transact any other such business that will be necessary.

Said Adams is about 5 ft. 11 in. high, bald head, blue eyes and about 35 years of age. He was well clothed in a suit of blue broadcloth, green cloak and velvet color. He also wore a black fur hat with black silk handkerchief with silk vest. The above named scoundrel is believed to be a native of Seneca County, NY, where he is supposed to have gone. He formerly lived in Harrisburg. His ostensible business is doctoring horses but has proved himself much more expert at stealing them. Will pay $25 for Adams and $25 for the horse, Kimball Porter, Wooster. March 20, 1838. The subscriber will sell at public venue, the late residence of John Hemperly, lately deceased in Wooster. To take place on Tuesday, 24th instant at 10 am and will consist of 8 horses, goods for them, one cow, a six horse wagon and bed, a two horse wagon and harness, single drow, one carriage harness, one sulky and harness, 4 sleds, one sleigh set of steel carriage springs, one saddle bridal, by the barrel flour, wheat and core oats, hay by ton, 2 oak flooring, household and kitchen furnishings and a variety of other articles. Wooster Journal and Democratic Times May 30, 1838 Blacksmith William Oldfield, west end of W Liberty Street. Nowell and Garing. An exhibit in Wooster on June 11th, open at 1 pm. Splendid circus and menagerie. Mr. A Hunt and Co., managers. Performance starts at 2 pm with introduction of the circus and entrance of great elephant saddled at which time Mr. J Carter will enter the circus with Master P Buckley. After that the performance of circus will commence grand display of horsemanship by whole corps, equestrian manager Mr. Rowlaie. Also a grand brass band. Admission is 50 cents adults, children 12 years of age and under are half price.

Fog and Stickeys, formerly Brown and Co. circus managers, of splendid establishment and having considerable expense fitted up their traveling concern of last season and respectfully inform the public that they are now ready to serve up an amusing bill of fare. We have celebrated Polish Bros., Mr. Wales great clown and Mr. W Mulligan, famous double trampoline leaper and vaulter, will exhibit in Wooster on Friday, June 8th for one day only. Doors open at 1 pm with performance at 2 and 7:30 pm. Admission for boxes 50 cents, children under 10 years of age are half price, pit is 25 cents. Without regard will play in Hayesville on June 2nd, Loudonville June 4th, Millersburg June 5th and Mt Eaton June 7th. Court of Common Pleas, Friday, June 15, 1838 with Ezra Dean presiding judge. For the public- Levi Cox, prosecuting attorney and John Harris. For defendant- Wm Silliman, Edward Avery and Eugene Pardee.

Wooster Journal and Democratic Times July 4, 1838 Trial of William Cunningham, for the murder of Polly Butterbaugh, May 15, 1838. Sworn were Henry Churchman, John McCoy, Thomas Barton, Wm Elliott, Thomas Bracken, John Brocher, Joseph C Nailor, David Kaufman, Benjamin Byers, Solomon Elliott, Ephraim C Marks, James. Trial of him. Charge of judge occupied over an hour. The jury returned about 2 am Sunday morning, an absence of 30 hours, returned a verdict of guilty. On motion of council for the prisoner after a short argument with the court, a new trial was ordered. The public is informed that the post office will be moved from the present location on April 1st to S Market Street, one door south of Judge Dean and directly opposite Judge McConahay. The subscriber informs the citizens of [[[Wooster, Ohio | Wooster]] that he has commenced the manufacture of all kinds of brushes such as sweeping, scrubbing, whitewash, cloth hat, table, tooth, shaving and all other kinds of fancy and common brushes. All kinds of brushes for machinery made on short order. His shop is in the building of the residence of Mr. Barr decd., on N Market Street, west side just a few doors north of the courthouse. Alexander Garing has moved his shop to the house of Mr. Clingan, a few doors south of the post office and nearly opposite Mr. McConahay tannery, S Market Street, where he will be doing tailoring.
