OFFICIAL WEBSITE: Wayne County Health Department

According to a Daily Record newspaper article dated Friday, January 4, 1946, January 1 marked the 26th year that the Wayne County Health Department and Wooster City Health Department had been working together. The two departments agreed to form a combined organization in January 1920. The Wooster City Board of Health had been organized on 19 May 1905. The Board consisted of the mayor and the members of the Public Service committee.

Prior to 1920, the old health statute required that each city and township would have its own Board of Health. There were 31 Boards of Health in Wayne County, Ohio. The new health law directed that every incorporated town with at least 5,000 people would need to have their own Board of Health.
