- James L. Patterson (1827-1903), served in the Mexican War. He enlisted in the army as a private in Captain Churchill’s Independent Co, OVI on 1 Jun 1846 and was discharged 14 Oct 1846. He is buried in the Apple Creek Number 2 Cemetery (Ohio, Wayne County, East Union Township, Apple Creek).
- James Patterson (1779-12 Nov 1836) served in the War of 1812 under Captain John Jones Co from 1 May 1812 to 1 May 1813. He was a lieutenant in the army. He is buried in the Apple Creek Number 1 Cemetery (Ohio, Wayne County, East Union Township, Apple Creek). Apple Creek Number Cemetery (Ohio, Wayne County, East Union Township, Apple Creek) is in East Union Township, Wayne County, Ohio.
- James Patterson buried in Congress Cemetery (Ohio, Wayne County, Congress Township) with no dates. His information is the same as the James Patterson buried in Apple Creek Number 1 Cemetery (Ohio, Wayne County, East Union Township, Apple Creek). More than likely this James Patterson is the same as number ** John Patterson (27 Jan 1819 – 6 Feb 1865) served as a private in the Civil War. He enlisted on 10 Oct 1861. No date of discharge is provided. He served in McLaughlin’s Squad Co. B and is buried in the Congress Cemetery (Ohio, Wayne County, Congress Township).
- Robert Patterson (1752 – 30 Aug 1834) served as a captain in the army during the Revolutionary War. He is buried in Congress Cemetery (Ohio, Wayne County, Congress Township). This information was provided by the DAR Roster.
- Robert Patterson (1778 – 12 Apr 1856) served in the army during the War of 1812 as a Corporal. He enlisted 29 Jul 1812 and was discharged 26 Aug 1812. He served under Lt. Joseph Drydens Co. He is buried in the Lucas Cemetery (Ohio, Wayne County, Chester Township).

Military service records
- The James and William Patterson in Congress Twp in 1830 were probably brothers, too. There father is the probable Robert Patterson, the Revolutionary War soldier. William does have an older male and female living with him. The age for the male would match Robert Patterson, Revolutionary War soldier. The female’s age is off by a few years. However, either the burial record could be incorrect or the census taker recorder her age in the incorrect column.
- Index to Revolutionary War Service Records under the name Robert Patterson and found two possible entries: Robert Patterson who served in the 4th Maryland Regiment and Robert Patterson who served as a private and sergeant in the 9th PA Regt. Either one may be a possibility.

You believe Robert Patterson is residing with William Patterson in Congress Township, Wayne County, Ohio in the 1830 US census.
- You would like to make a connection between James Patterson and Captain Robert Patterson (1752-1834). James and his wife Rebecca Parker Patterson and Capt. Robert Patterson and his wife Susanna are buried in Congress Cemetery (Ohio, Wayne County, Congress Township). James Patterson is listed as a veteran of the War of 1812. Robert Patterson is listed as a Revolutionary War veteran.

- The last request you had referred to James Patterson of the Wayne County, Ohio Pioneer. The only additional information we have is James Patterson was born 1785 in Cecil County, Maryland. He owned land is the SW quarter of section 22 (160 acres) in Congress Township, Wayne County, Ohio. The individual who submitted the research is descendant through Rebecca Jane Patterson who married Thomas Ferguson. Rebecca Jane was the daughter of James and Rebecca. No information is provided on the parents of James and Rebecca Patterson. James Patterson is listed on the Pioneer Quilt.

James was born 18 April 1785 in Maryland and died 11 April 1867 in Wayne County, Ohio. His wife, Rebecca, was born 10 April 1796 in Pennsylvania and died 22 April 1867 in Wayne County, Ohio. The following children were listed in Wayne County, Ohio Probate Court file # 2982 for James Patterson and file # 3018 for Rebecca Patterson:

- There father is John, as given in the Probate record of James Patterson whose will was probated 26 November 1836. James Patterson was married to Martha. I do not think any children were born to this union. James lists his brothers as Thomas, John, and William. His sisters are Susannah Patterson (widow of Robert Patterson, deceased) and Margaret Robison (widow of John Patterson, deceased). No children were listed in his will.
