Businesses within the health and social care sector include not only hospitals but also doctors’ and dental offices, chiropractors, hospitals, mental health services and facilities, and nursing homes.

Before the Wooster Community Hospital opened in 1959, Wooster had three hospitals: one at the home of Captain James B. Taylor on North Market Street (1907-1942), one on South Bever Street (Kinney and Smith Hospital, 1916-1959), and the Beeson Clinic on North Market Street (1936-1956). Today Wayne County, Ohio has two hospitals: Wooster Community Hospital and Aultman Orrville Hospital. In addition, the Wooster Clinic on Cleveland Road was purchased by the Cleveland Clinic and now has additional facilities around the north end of Wooster.

In addition to businesses providing medical services, this sector also covers businesses providing social services and assistance. That includes national organizations such as the American Cancer Society and Habitat for Humanity as well as local organizations such as LifeCare Hospice, People to People Ministries, and the Village Network.
