Questions About the Department

Where are you located?

We are located at 220 West Liberty St. in Wooster, Ohio. We are in downtown Wooster, 2 blocks west of the Courthouse. The department is located on the 2nd floor next to the elevator.

What are your hours?

Monday: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Thursday: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Friday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Is there a charge to use the department?

There is no charge to use the department.

There is a charge of $0.10 per page for 8 1/2" x 11" black and white copies and $0.30 for color copies. Black and white copies on 11" x 17" paper is $0.20 and color copies are $0.60.

When scanning images to USB drives, there is no charge. The copier and microfilm readers offer the option of scanning to USB drives.

When requesting information by mail or email, other charges do apply.

Do I need to make an appointment to use the department?

The department is fully staffed. It is not necessary to make an appointment to use the department.

Does your department offer research assistance?

Yes, our department offers assistance. Staff are available to answer your questions.

My ancestors are not from Wayne County, Ohio. Do you have resources available outside Wayne County?

Yes, our department has a variety of publications available from other counties in Ohio. Also, many early settlers migrated from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. We have many publications from these states as well as parts of West Virginia and Northeastern Indiana.

Wayne County was the parent county of Ashland and Holmes County, Ohio. The department has newspapers and court records from these two counties.

The library offers access to several databases. These include American Ancestors, Ancestry Library Edition, and Heritage Quest Online.
