Questions About the Department

Where are you located?

We are located at 220 West Liberty St. in Wooster, Ohio. We are in downtown Wooster, 2 blocks west of the Courthouse. The department is located on the 2nd floor next to the elevator.

What are your hours?

Monday: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Thursday: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Friday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Is there a charge to use the department?

There is no charge to use the department.

Is there a charge for copies and/or scans?

There is a charge of $0.10 per page for 8 1/2" x 11" black and white copies and $0.30 for color copies. Black and white copies on 11" x 17" paper is $0.20 and color copies are $0.60.

When scanning images to USB drives, there is no charge. The copier and microfilm readers offer the option of scanning to USB drives.

Do I need to make an appointment to use the department?

The department is fully staffed. It is not necessary to make an appointment to use the department.

Does your department offer research assistance?

Yes, our department offers assistance. Staff are available to answer your questions in person, by email, mail, or phone.

Does the department charge a research fee?

The department does not charge a research fee. However, when requesting information by mail or email, some fees do apply. Refer to our Research Services and Fees section of the website for more information.

Resources

My ancestors are not from Wayne County, Ohio. Do you have resources available to assist me?

Yes, our department has a variety of publications available from other counties in Ohio. Also, many early settlers migrated from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. We have many publications from these states as well as parts of West Virginia and Northeastern Indiana.

Wayne County was the parent county of Ashland and Holmes County, Ohio. The department has newspapers and court records from these two counties.

Does your library offer access to Ancestry.com?

The library offers access to several databases. These include American Ancestors, Ancestry Library Edition, and Heritage Quest Online. Researchers must use American Ancestors and Ancestry Library Edition at the library. Heritage Quest Online may be accessed from home with a valid library card.

What information about Wayne County can I find online?

Library volunteers have assisted with many projects. Many of their efforts may be found through our department's webpages.

Through donations, the library has been able to provide digitized access to several Wayne County, Ohio Newspapers. Links to these newspapers may be found through the Genealogy Portal. Miscellaneous titles may be found through the Newspapers page of the Wayne County, Ohio Online Resource Center.
