Col. Frank C. Gerlach served in the Spanish-American War and in World War I. Most information regarding Col. Gerlach comes from the Frank C. Gerlach File, a collection of documents from Col. Gerlach's personal records. The file was donated to the Wayne County Public Library by Mr. Harry S. McClarran in 1989, and is currently housed in the Genealogy and Local History Department of the Wooster branch of the Wayne County Public Library. More information regarding Col. Col. Gerlach is the son of Frank C. and Johanna M. (Kaltwasser) Gerlach, immigrants from Wetzlar, Germany. In addition to his military service in the Spanish-American War and World War I, Col. Gerlach attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and worked in pharmaceuticals, was postmaster of the City of Wooster, Ohio, and was superintendent of the Boys' Industrial School, a juvenile corrections facility near Lancaster, Ohio.
Col. Frank Gerlach was married to Florence May McClarran on June 26th, 1902[5]. He had two children with Florence, Mary Frances and Harry Mcclarran Gerlach, born in 1904 and 1908 respectively.
