Baughman Township, Wayne County, Ohio

Baughman Township was established March 5, 1816 and named after John Baughman, the first white settler.[1] John was recorded as the first white man to be granted a deed in Wayne county.[2] The township had a lot of swamp area. [3]

It was formed from the originally surveyed township 17, range 11.[4]

There were 10 country schools around 1900, but they were almost all closed by 1938 and the students were sent to either Dalton, Orrville, or Marshallville.

There were a lot of coal mines in the early 1900's.[5]
