Arden was born on April 2, 1927 to A.C. and Mary Ramseyer in Smithville, Ohio. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1945 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Business at Bluffton College, Bluffton, Ohio. Upon graduating and marrying his college sweetheart Mae Miller, he returned to Smithville to take on the family profession of farming. Arden was a loving and dedicated father to his two children, Dennis and Diane.

While he loved to travel and explore the world, he had a deep commitment to serving his church and community. As a lifelong member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church, he served as Chairman of the Church Council, and as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday school teacher. His dedication to his church extended to service as President of the Ohio Mennonite Relief Sale Board, President of Mennonite Central Committee Meat Canning, Board Member to Mennonite Mutual Aid, and service through Mennonite Disaster Service in Haiti. He was also active within his community and profession as a farmer. He was a Ruritan Charter Member, Rotarian, Greene Local School Board member, Singer Products Board member, Ohio Potato Growers Association member, and served as president of all five of these organizations at different times. He was also a valued member of the National Potato Board and Smithville Historical Society. In 1961, Arden was presented with the Outstanding Farmer Award by the Wooster Chamber of Commerce. His community and church will remember him for his many years of service, but his family will remember him for the joy and love he found in his faith, family and many friends which shone on his face with every smile and laugh.
