The house located at 516 N. Bever St. was likely built sometime between 1866-1868 by property owner Gotlieb Gasche. While Gotlieb Gasche bought the large lot of land in 1859, tax records show the approximately 2-acre lot was only valued at $200 from 1860 through 1865, which indicates no house was on the property. Furthermore, an 1868 newspaper article reports he built a two-story frame dwelling with wing for $4,600 sometime between 1865-1868 which narrows the time frame of construction to between 1866 to 1868.

Gotlieb Gasche was born in the Kingdom of Prussia the son of Dr. Charles Gasche and Catherine Eisengarth. His father was a surgeon in his native land, and came with his family to the United States in June, 1833. They are listed on the passenger arrivals at the Port of Baltimore for the quarter ending June 30, 1833. After arrival the family first located in York, Pennsylvania, then moved to Holmes County, Ohio arriving in October of 1835 and located on an 80-acre farm which the doctor's sons helped to clear. Dr. Charles Gasche and his wife Catherine had at least seven children:

Shortly after arriving in America Gotlieb Gasche moved to Texas where he took part in the Texas Revolution for independence which ended in 1836. In 1840, he moved to Wooster, Ohio where his brother Charles Gasche was living and where he started a meat butchering business which he continued until his death at his residence on N. Bever street on April 17, 1875 at the age of 61 years old. During his lifetime he served as a Wooster councilman and for 15 years was the Captain of Wooster Fire Co. No. 3. He married married a sister of William Nold, Christiana, and they had three sons: August, Charles, and William, all of whom died in the prime of life. The only descendents of the family left were Edmund (Edward) Gasche and Bertha Gasche. He built his house just up the street from his brother, Charles Gasche, who lived at 340 N. Bever St.

Over the years the Gotlieb Gasche family owned their large lot of land they sold a number of parcels off from the original 2-acre lot and a number of houses on N. Buckeye street and three houses on N. Bever street trace back to land purchases made from the Gasche's lot number 1619 or old out-lot number 165.
