The Wooster Insecticide Company was founded by Walter J. Buss and J. W. Hammond in the early 1920s when the two men whipped-up a concoction which was used in the poultry houses to rid fowl of the red mites which attack chickens. The formula which the two men perfected was sold to farmers and the mixture was painted on roosts and other places where the hens and roosters lived. However, the company never acquired great success and it died a lingering death during the 1930s Depression era.[1]
