The Wooster Farm Dairies plant was located at 679 Madison Ave., on the west side of the street, south of the railroad bridge. The company was a producer of milk. The company collected raw milk from area farmers, processed it, and sold it to retailers and wholesalers.

In 1923, a group of local men became aware that Wayne County farmers were producing more milk than area markets could use and saw the opportunity to form a milk company. After prospecting for a larger market, a Cleveland company agreed to buy all the milk they could supply. Wooster Farm Dairies was incorporated on August 31, 1923 and six weeks later the first batch of milk was processed and shipped. In addition to plant production the company operated two retail outlets, one next to the main plant and one in the north-end of Wooster.

The first Board of Directors included Percy Maize, R. H. Dunn, Elmer Amstutz, C. P. Snavely, and Clayton Hodge, who was on the Board all 37 years of its existence and served as it general manager until its sale. The annual production of milk was a reported 55 million pounds while operating seven days a week. The daily output of milk was 16,000 gallons, of which 88% was shipped to Cleveland area markets. The company only shut-down once in its entire existence: when a flash-flood struck in 1959 that flooded the plant and destroyed hundreds of gallons of milk.

When the construction of the U.S. 30 Dix Expressway was initiated the Wooster Farm Dairies production plant needed to be removed from its location. The Board of Directors, at the time in 1960, decided to sell the business to Smith Merchant Wholesalers - Durable Goods Company of Orrville, Ohio rather than relocate the plant.[1]
