In the Wayne County Democrat newspaper dated 13 October 1880, there was a listing of Civil War Veterans residing in Wayne County, Ohio who were in support of Hancock running for President. The meeting of the Hancock Soldiers Veteran Legion was held in France's Academy of Music in Wooster, Ohio.

The OVI is the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The OVC is the Ohio Volunteer Calvary. O Bat is the Ohio Battalion.
