George Coffey started working for a new business venture, The Wayne County Abstract Company Inc., from its inception in 1922. Judge W. F. Kean, father of Coffey's wife, Clara, was President. Stockholders included O. H. Larwill, L. H. Woodward, and others. The Wayne County Abstract Company corporation was dissolved in 1940, and George Coffey took over ownership of the business as an individual. It was then that the business dropped the words, "The" and "County" from its name and became simply, Wayne Abstract Company.

From it's beginning it was the only Wayne County business devoted full-time to real estate title work and the company has done title searches for most of the manufacturing concerns which have purchased property here between 1922-1954 as well as for many downtown businesses in Wooster and surrounding municipalities. It was reported that they made some 6,000 certificates of title and nearly 3,000 title abstracts over the years in business.
