The advance step in the science of penmanship in Wooster and its vicinity must be credited to the opening of this institute about one year ago. By means of Bixler's method physical training in penmanship a wonderful command of the pen is secured in a short time. This method is based upon the following principles: That movement, control over the arm and fingers, is the real difficulty in learning to write. That the forms of the letters can easily be acquired. That the muscles are trained by careful repetition. That rapid writing is valuable and slow writing almost useless. That since the muscles can be trained only by repetition, the greater the speed- oftener the repetition, the sooner you will acquire a control over them, provided it is not carried to excess. That a slow motion and a rapid motion are contrary to each other, and you can not well learn one while practicing the other. From $800 to $1,200 can easily be made in a year by teaching Bixler's system of physical training in penmanship after completing a ten weeks' course at The American Pen Art Hall, Wooster, O. By introducing the system people will readily see into it, and you can get hundreds of scholars of all ages. The principal, G. Bixler, taught public school for seven years, and when he first taught he was a poorer writer than the average. Wishing to improve his own writing he took lessons from different penmen, and in a short time he became a tolerably good writer. While taking lessons his teachers paid most of their attention to the forms of the letters, while pupils were really tailing in movement. He saw that all scholars knew how letters should be made, but they could not make them, as they had not sufficient control over their muscles. This led to the adoption of Bixler's physical training system in penmanship, which is now the most effective system of teaching penmanship ever introduced. Catalogues sent on application. [1]
