Wilfred and Paul Schott established a factory shortly after the Spanish-American War which manufactured canvas lids for ice cream freezers. The business was called Schott Bros. & co.[1]
A patent was issued for their lids and during this time period they also started producing canvas covers for milk cans. Due to the invention of refrigerated cars and trucks the demand for canvas insulated covers diminished. The business plan switched to manufacture buffers.
Buffers became an important product of the business. For a couple of years girls and women came from surrounding villages and farms to work here.
A side product of business was to utilize the scraps of materials to make quilts and comforters.
After the death of Wilfred and Paul. Mrs. W. B. Schott carried on the work alone for six years before selling her interest in the company.[2]
