Wayne County, Ohio is well known for its strong emphasis on agriculture. The Wayne County Fairgrounds is home to the Wayne County Fair which opens for a week each September. According to the 1948 Wooster City Directory, on page 16, Wayne County, Ohio ranked first among Ohio's 88 counties in many areas of agriculture. Some include Dairying Cattle and Milk production, potato acreage and production, poultry and egg production, value of all livestock produced, and much more. Ramseyer Potato Farms was well known over the entire Eastern and Central parts of the U.S. Ramseyer Farms still operates a very successful business today. It is located just northeast of Wooster on SR 585 and is a 5th generation family farm. Smith Dairy Products Company continues to grow and operate a successful business. Smith's dairy began operations as early as 1908 and is headquarters are in Orrville, Ohio.
