Nine member of the DHS Class of '36, their spouses, and special guest, Mrs. Gladys (Hasseman) Aker, widow of classmate Rev. Wallace Aker, met on Friday evening, July 23, at Das Dutch Kitchen, to socialize and recall happy memories of long ago school days.

Mrs. Aker asked the blessing before the meal.

The reunion this year was dedicated to the memory of S/Sgt. Harry J. Parker, of the 127th Infantry Regiment, 6th Army, who was killed in action on Aug. 3, 1944, at Afrua, New Guinea, the only class member to have made the supreme sacrifice in World War II. The class eulogized Harry with written and oral recollections of him.

A letter from classmate Wesley Warnock, of Medina, was read. his missive also contained schoolday memories of Harry, some of them amusing.

It was recalled also that a copy of the American Heritage History of World War II was in recent times presented to the Dalton High School library, to honor Harry.

Coming farthest for the event were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hannie, of Lakeland, Florida. From Gene we learned that George Vierebome, Dalton High's head coach in the the nineteen thirties, is still living, at Palm Harbor, Florida, and is 89.

The reunion this year was planned by Jean Kurtz, Anna Santschi, and Gene Hannie, and our sincere thanks go to those worthies.

The following class members were on hand: Jean (Wenger) Kurtz, Adeline (Zaugg) Werner, Anna Santschi, Gene Hannie, George Steffen, Leslie Moser, Jay Buchwalter, Carl Shisler, and Frank McAdams.

No class members have been lost since our last meeting, in 1998.
