Formerly Deco-Tile: Robertson American purchased by Clarke Corp. of Fort Washington. The Clarke Corp. of Fort Washington, Pa., manufacturer of building products and containers, announced last week its purchase of the Robertson American Corp. headquartered in Morrisville, Pa. which operates a plant in Dalton. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Leroy Schabach, office manager of the Dalton plant said that no major changes in plant operation are expected.

According to Lewis E. Hatch, Jr. president of Clark the Robertson American companies will be operated as wholly-owned subsidiaries, and present management will be retained.

The Dalton plant, a subsidiary of the Morrisville firm, employs about 40 persons in the manufacture of tile and bathroom equipment.

The company, which came to Dalton four years ago, occupies the expanded quarters of the former Houghton pottery, later owned by Deco-Tile. Plant manager is C. V. Campbell.

Robertson American Corp., a manufacturer of ceramic tile products, is owned by American Manufacturing Co. of Brooklyn, N. Y.

In addition to the Morrisville, Pa., and Dalton plants, Robertson American has a plant in Scottdale, Ga., and manufactures a wide variety of ceramic tiles for residential and industrial use. Sales are made through distributors and directly to contractors in the eastern U. S.

Hatch said that the acquisition, which should be completed before the end of the year, constitutes a firm commitment by Clarke to the building products field.

"Currently, a majority of our container sales are for products used in the building trades - caulking cartridges, welding electrode cans and so on," Hatch said. "In addition, we have two subsidiaries that manufacture prime aluminum doors and windows for residential and industrial use."

Robertson American has annual sales volume of approximately $3.6 million, and Clarke expect 1971 sales from present operations to exceed $8.5 million.

The Clarke Corp. is headquartered in Fort Washington, Pa. Its building products subsidiaries have plants in Miamisburg and Corning, Ohio. The firm operates container plants in Philadelphia Hanover, Pa., and in Cleveland, Ohio."
