History
The German Reform Church building was built on the corner of North and Buckeye streets in 1871 for the German Reform Society. The architectural design was done by C. C. Baker of Wooster, Ohio. The stone for the building was furnished by Capt. J. H. Kauke, from his quarry south of the City of Wooster. The contractor was Brown, Robison & Co. The brick for the building was manufactured by Balmer & Brother in their yards in the northeastern part of the city, while the contract for the brick work was awarded to Seib & Hettinger. The original design stated it was 44ft wide by 86ft long, with a general elevation of about 40ft above the foundation wall, and a spire nearly 140ft in height. The cost of the building when completed was estimated to be $12,000.[1]
